BMW finds more range from the i7 without adding battery capacity

BMW Unveils Updated 7 Series with Enhanced Electric i7 Model

BMW has recently rolled out a refreshed version of its flagship 7 Series, with a significant focus on the improvements made to the electric i7 model. The luxury sedan now boasts an extended driving range without the need for a substantially larger battery.

The BMW i7 50 xDrive, with a power output of 335 kW / 449 hp and torque of 660 Nm / 487 lb ft, has seen its WLTP range boosted to 728 km / 452 miles, representing a 20 km / 12 miles increase from its previous range. Additionally, BMW claims that a quick 10-minute high-power charging session can add between 195 km / 121 miles and 235 km / 146 miles of range.

Interestingly, despite the enhancements, the battery capacity remains at around 112kWh. This suggests that BMW has achieved greater efficiency in the drivetrain and energy management systems, rather than simply relying on increased battery capacity.

On the interior front, the updated 7 Series now features BMW’s Panoramic iDrive, which includes the wide Panoramic Vision display, a 17.9-inch central screen, and a passenger display.

For the performance enthusiasts, the hotter i7 M70 xDrive model delivers a robust 500 kW / 671 hp and torque of 1,100 Nm / 811 lb ft. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.8 seconds and offers a range of up to 686 km / 426 miles. However, this variant is currently unavailable in Singapore.

As for pricing, the updated BMW i7 comes with a price tag of $709,888, while the 735 M Sport model is available for $684,888, both prices inclusive of COE.
