The Evolution of Sports Gaming: Introducing ‘Just Volleyball’
The Thrilling World of Volleyball in “Just Volleyball” Game
In a significant turn of events earlier this year, I embarked on a transformative journey by delving into the captivating world of Haikyu!! This marked my initiation into the realm of sports anime, a genre that had previously eluded my interest. As a former self-proclaimed “chubby little muffin,” physical activity took a backseat in my life. However, with Haikyu!!, I found myself drawn into a new realm of storytelling and excitement. The experience even sparked a fleeting contemplation of taking up volleyball myself. Little did I know, an exhilarating alternative awaited me in the form of a charmingly crafted game called “just volleyball.”
“Just volleyball” is a sports game that lives up to its straightforward title. The initial encounter with the game’s demo presents players with an avatar customization screen reminiscent of the beloved Mii Channel from the Wii era. From selecting hairstyles to defining facial features and jersey numbers, the game offers a plethora of customization options. And then, the real fun begins with the volleyball gameplay.

True to the essence of real-life volleyball, “just volleyball” allows players to engage in a variety of moves, including jumping, bumping, diving, spiking, blocking, and serving. Unlike the simplicity of Wii Sports, mastering this game demands keen attention and skillful maneuvering. Playing with a controller adds another layer of complexity, where players navigate their character with the left stick and aim their shots with the right stick. The precision required to direct the ball to teammates or opponents adds a challenging element to the gameplay experience.
Constant vigilance is essential to anticipate the ball’s trajectory, especially when receiving it. Ensuring that the cursor is aligned with a teammate is crucial for successful team plays, as individual scoring opportunities are rare. Serving presents its own set of challenges, demanding precise timing and strategic finesse to outwit opponents. While mastering the game may pose initial difficulties, progress can be made by honing various gameplay components.
Reflecting on my experience with “just volleyball,” a sense of delight encompasses my thoughts. The game’s simplicity and direct approach draw inspiration from Wii Sports while carving out its unique identity. It offers an engaging and enjoyable experience that stays true to its essence – just volleyball! For those intrigued by this gaming adventure, the demo is available on Steam before its official release on November 4th.
