Introducing the Kia PV7: The Ultimate SUV Upgrade

Kia has recently unveiled its second electric van, known as the PV7, as part of its efforts to expand its electric van lineup. The announcement was made during the CES 2024, and now the wait is finally over. The PV7 features a sleek and futuristic design similar to the PV5, complete with thin daytime running lights on a glossy black panel.

This new van was officially introduced at the IAA Transportation 2026 Show in Hannover, Germany. It is the second model to utilize Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) and will be available in both Cargo and Passenger variants, following in the footsteps of its sibling, the PV5.

Riding on the same E-GMPS platform as the PV5, the Kia PV7 boasts a flat floor architecture that enhances interior space. The vehicle will come in two powertrain options: a 72-kWh or 96-kWh battery with a single front-mounted motor generating 268 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque. Kia also plans to introduce a four-wheel-drive version in the future.

While the full lineup range of the PV7 is yet to be disclosed, Kia has revealed that the Long Range Cargo Version will be equipped with a 92 kWh battery capable of traveling 285 miles (WLTP) on a single charge or 240 miles using EPA’s technology.

Thanks to its 800-volt architecture, the PV7 can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 25 minutes on DC fast chargers. The van features two charging ports: one in the front that supports AC or DC charging and an optional rear AC port. Additionally, the van offers vehicle-to-load capabilities, allowing drivers to power external electronic devices and equipment using the van’s power.

The interior of the Kia PV7 mirrors that of the PV5, featuring a 14.6-inch touchscreen on the dashboard and a digital gauge cluster behind the steering wheel. The PV7 retains physical buttons for climate system control and runs on the new Pleos operating system, based on the Android Automotive System, which offers a smartphone-like user interface.

One of the standout features of the PV7 is the Gleo AI voice assistant, designed to handle messaging functions and navigation. The Cargo variant comes with the Kia business solution portal software, enabling fleet managers to efficiently manage charging, daily operations, and maintenance tasks.

In terms of cargo space, the PV7 offers a variety of options. The Long Cargo variant measures 210.6 meters from nose to tail, providing up to 215 cubic feet of space. The High Roof Cargo model increases cargo capacity to 282 cubic feet, with a payload capacity of 2,568 pounds for the Long Cargo variant. The PV7 Cargo Van comes with either a twin swing tailgate or a lift tailgate, while the PV7 Passenger Van can accommodate up to nine passengers (eleven seats in South Korea).

The Kia PV7 is set to go on sale in 2027 initially in South Korea and Europe, with plans for expansion to other markets in the future. The PV7 will eventually be available in 23 different variants, including compact cargo and passenger versions, a chassis cab variant, and more.

Production of the PV7 will take place in the same factory where the PV5 was manufactured, located in Hwaseong, South Korea. Kia has also announced plans for a larger model, the PV9, scheduled for release in 2029. While pricing details for the PV7 have not been confirmed, it is expected to exceed the current figures for the PV5.
