Aptoide iOS Game Store: Join the 20,000 Strong Waitlist Today!
An exciting development in the world of app stores as Aptoide announces the launch of its iOS game store in Europe on Thursday. This marks the third third-party app store to be introduced, following Setapp and AltStore.
All three companies are capitalizing on the recent changes enforced by Apple in the EU through the Digital Markets Act, which now allows for competition within the App Store for the first time.
Aptoide, known for having the third-largest Android app store, is aiming to replicate its success on the iOS platform with a unique focus on games initially.
The company is building anticipation with a countdown timer set for its launch at 10 am GMT on June 6.
While there is a link available to download the app, access is currently restricted to a waitlist of 20,000 individuals, allowing only 500 to 1,000 installations per day.
Aptoide has revealed plans to start with seven games at launch, with an increase to 30 games shortly after. Over 100 iOS developers have already expressed interest in joining the platform.
The company’s unique approach to Apple’s fee structure for alternative app stores sets it apart. Aptoide is the first third-party iOS marketplace in Europe to launch with an Apple-approved in-app purchases (IAP) solution, offering developers an IAP software development kit.
Instead of passing on the Core Technology Fee (CTF) directly to users, Aptoide plans to cover the cost through fees charged to developers for in-app purchases, giving preference to IAP-driven apps on the platform.
Joints Setapp and AltStore
Setapp Mobile from MacPaw recently launched as an invitation-only beta, featuring 13 apps with a plan to expand to 30 before opening to the public. AltStore began its rollout in April, facing challenges due to Apple’s restrictions on installing third-party app stores.
With Aptoide leading the way, it’s likely that more app stores will follow suit in the near future.
