Microsoft to Launch Xbox Full Screen Experience for Windows-Based Handhelds

Microsoft is set to introduce its new Xbox Full Screen Experience (FSE) for Windows-based handheld devices starting November 21st. This feature, initially available on Xbox Ally devices, will now be rolled out to a wider range of Windows-based handhelds, offering users a more immersive console-like navigation experience within the Xbox app on Windows 11.

Following a preview release for MSI Claw models, Microsoft is extending the availability of Xbox FSE to all Windows-based handhelds. Furthermore, Microsoft plans to expand Xbox FSE to additional Windows 11 PC form factors through the Xbox and Windows Insider programs in the near future.

The Xbox FSE optimizes memory usage by eliminating unnecessary background processes and loading only essential components, such as the Xbox PC app. By skipping the loading of the Explorer shell, users can save up to 2GB of memory, providing a smoother gaming experience.

Enabling Xbox FSE on a handheld or PC will automatically launch the Xbox PC app upon boot, granting access to all PC games from various storefronts, including the Microsoft Store, Battle.net, and Steam. Additionally, features like the Game Bar and task view enhance navigation between games and launchers, catering to a more user-friendly experience.

To activate Xbox FSE on a compatible handheld, users can navigate to Settings > Gaming > Full screen experience and select Xbox as the preferred home app.
