Grubhub Parent Company Wonder Acquires Restaurant Rewards App Claim

Wonder, the parent company of Grubhub, has recently announced its acquisition of Claim, a popular restaurant rewards app. Claim, founded in 2021, provides users with cash-back rewards for local restaurant purchases, which can be redeemed for dine-in or pick-up orders. The app allows restaurants to partner with Claim to create promotions, increase foot traffic, and monitor performance insights through the Claim dashboard.

The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. However, Claim had previously raised a total of $20 million, with a $12 million Series A funding round in October 2024. Pitchbook estimated the company’s valuation at $62 million.

Grubhub has expressed that this acquisition will provide restaurants on its platform with access to Claim’s customer acquisition and retention tools. Additionally, Grubhub diners will benefit from increased savings and rewards for dining out.

Claim’s CEO and co-founder, Sam Obletz, stated, “By combining a delightful rewards experience and powerful machine learning models, we match restaurants with their next regulars. Claim is a game-changer for these businesses, and joining Grubhub marks an exciting new chapter as we scale to reach millions more diners and thousands of restaurants.”

Grubhub has extended offers to all members of the Claim team to join the company. Under Grubhub, Claim will help more restaurants connect with consumers through personalized rewards, aiming to reduce customer acquisition costs and drive repeat visits without adding operational complexity.

Howard Migdal, CEO of Grubhub, commented on the acquisition, stating, “Claim’s innovative rewards technology introduces a powerful new way for our restaurant partners to engage in-person diners and builds on Grubhub’s robust existing suite of marketing tools. With Grubhub and Claim together under one roof, we can scale Claim’s data-driven tools to our more than 415,000 merchants and help our nearly 20 million diners save more money at the restaurants they love.”

Claim is now accessible to Grubhub merchants and diners in New York City, with plans for a nationwide rollout later this year. Grubhub has assured that Claim will remain available to current merchants and consumers through the Claim app and website for the foreseeable future. In the following months, the company aims to create a streamlined experience across the Grubhub and Claim apps for both restaurant partners and diners.

For existing Claim users, Grubhub mentioned that there might be modifications to the product and how rewards are distributed. However, users can anticipate personalized promotions and rewards for supporting local restaurants.

Investors in Claim include VMG Technology, Sequoia Capital, Susa Ventures, Lightbank, and Metalab Ventures.
