The Latest on the Potential Acquisition of Electronic Arts by Investor Group

A group of investors who are aiming to purchase Electronic Arts is on the verge of obtaining approval from European regulators, a recent report from Reuters suggests.

It is anticipated that the European Commission will give the green light to the $55 billion deal under its Foreign Subsidies Regulation following a preliminary assessment set to conclude on July 30.

Furthermore, unconditional approval under standard EU merger regulations is also foreseen after a separate evaluation ends on July 22. The consortium involved in the acquisition includes Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners.

First announced in September 2025, this transaction, if successful, would mark the largest leveraged buyout in history and would result in one of the gaming industry’s major publishers going private.

Despite these developments, official confirmation of approval has not yet been made public. Both Electronic Arts and the European Commission have refrained from commenting on the matter, and the Public Investment Fund has not responded to requests for statements from Reuters.

Until formal decisions are officially released, the report should be viewed as a significant ongoing story rather than definitive confirmation that the acquisition has passed all remaining European reviews.
