AI: More Than Just a Friend
Apple’s Siri AI Takes a Different Approach to Chatbots
During early testing, Siri AI has demonstrated a unique ability to know when to remain silent, a deliberate design choice by Apple. In an interview with Mostly Human as reported by MacRumors, Craig Federighi, Apple’s software head, highlighted that Siri distinguishes itself from chatbots created by other companies like OpenAI and Google.
Federighi emphasized that existing chatbots often prioritize engagement and may exhibit sycophantic behavior, aiming to draw users in and extract personal information to establish a connection. Apple’s Siri, however, follows a different philosophy.
Apple intentionally designed Siri to focus on assisting users in accomplishing tasks and expanding their knowledge, rather than engaging in personal or romantic interactions. Federighi emphasized that Siri is not programmed to function as a romantic partner and is solely dedicated to helping users.
The interview, which also featured insights from marketing chief Greg Joswiak, covered various topics such as privacy measures and Apple’s new child safety features.
