Apple Boosts iCloud Mail Alias Capacity

Apple is enhancing its iCloud+ service by allowing users to create more aliases for their primary accounts and custom domains. Previously, the limit was quite restrictive, but now users can enjoy increased flexibility in managing their email addresses.

Introduced in 2021 with iOS 15, custom domain support was a welcome addition to iCloud+. Users could register a new domain via Cloudflare directly from their iPhone. However, the initial limit on aliases was limiting, with only three aliases allowed per custom domain.

Compared to other email services like Fastmail, which offers up to 100 custom domains and 600 aliases per account, Apple’s limits seemed restrictive. But now, Apple has raised the alias limit to ten personalized email addresses per custom domain, providing users with more options for managing their email communication.

Each user can create up to ten unique addresses for their account, including the primary email address. This means that users can have nine additional aliases beyond their primary address. The same limit applies to the primary iCloud email address, allowing for increased customization and organization.

In addition to the alias limit increase, users can still utilize a catch-all mailbox for routing emails to a specific mailbox. While this provides flexibility, it can be challenging to manage temporary addresses that are no longer needed. Users can also use Hide My Email for disposable addresses, with no official limit on the number of addresses that can be created.

Overall, Apple’s enhancements to iCloud+ make it easier for users to manage their email communication and customize their email addresses to suit their needs. With increased flexibility and options for customization, iCloud+ continues to be a valuable service for Apple users.
