Apple Maps Delivers Virtual F1 Miami Grand Prix Adventure
Apple’s seamless integration within its ecosystem is truly remarkable, especially when it comes to curating content for significant cultural events. In February 2021, during Black History Month, Apple went all out by releasing a special edition Apple Watch and featuring exclusive content on Apple Books, Apple Podcasts, and Apple TV.
Apple has extended its reach to Apple Maps, transforming TV shows into real-world adventures. Fans of “Drops of God” can explore favorite vineyards of actor Tomohisa Yamashita, while “Slow Horses” enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the show’s London landmarks.
Noteworthy was Apple’s creation of an Apple Maps Guide last year, highlighting iconic tracks from “F1: The Movie.” Now, with Formula 1 racing gaining popularity in the United States, Apple has enhanced Apple Maps to cater to F1 enthusiasts.
The recent addition of F1 races on Apple TV has been a massive success, starting with the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix. The upcoming Miami Grand Prix on May 3 will be a highlight, with Apple Maps offering an immersive experience of the circuit to fans.
Just like other 3D landmarks on Apple Maps, the Miami International Autodrome has been meticulously rendered, showcasing details such as the Hard Rock Stadium, Formula 1 Pit building, and track itself. Overhead banners promote Apple TV as the “The new U.S. Home of F1.”
The track features waypoints for each turn, along with technical information about the circuit and markers for key locations within the venue, including the F1 Fan Zone and first aid stations.
Apple has also introduced special Apple Maps Guides for the event as part of the “Hyperlocal” guide series. “A Local’s Guide to Miami F1 Race Week” helps visitors discover dining and shopping spots, while “F1 Crypto.com Miami Race Week Spots” offers tips on navigation and ideal viewing spots around the track.
The F1 Miami Apple Maps collaboration is not a standalone instance, as Apple previously did a similar promotion for the Australian race. With Apple TV being the exclusive platform for home fans to stream the races, the Miami Grand Prix is a pivotal event, known for its North American energy and challenging circuit.
The Miami Grand Prix has gained prominence since its introduction in 2022, attracting US fans with its accessible location and thrilling 5.41-kilometer street-style circuit. The event promises high-speed action as F1 cars reach top speeds of 350 km/h on the straights.
While the final race is scheduled for 4 p.m. local time on Sunday, May 3, Apple will stream practice sessions, Sprint Qualifying, and other races on Friday and Saturday for Apple TV subscribers in the US at no extra cost. International viewers will need to explore alternative viewing options.
