Apple Negotiates OLED Discounts for iPhone 18 to Combat Rising Costs
Apple is reportedly exploring ways to cut costs for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models amidst rising memory prices. The company is seeking price reductions from suppliers like Samsung Display and LG Display, who provide OLED panels for the iPhones. Industry sources suggest that Apple has negotiated lower prices for OLED panels, putting pressure on suppliers to stay competitive.
Samsung Display is expected to supply 46 million OLED panels for the iPhone 18 lineup, with 26 million designated for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. LG Display will supply around 41 million panels, including 21 million for Apple’s flagship device. This high volume allows Apple to negotiate lower prices, with the iPhone 18 Pro Max panels costing around $66.50 each.
While some price reductions may be attributed to normal year-over-year trends, Apple is not compromising on quality. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is set to feature the latest “M16” organic material set, offering improved lifespan, efficiency, brightness, and color.
In response to increasing costs, Apple recently implemented price hikes across its product range, excluding the iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. However, analysts predict that prices for the iPhone 18 Pro models could still rise significantly due to higher memory and storage costs.
Apple is facing challenges in negotiating prices for memory chips, as competition from AI companies has limited its bargaining power. Despite this, the company is leveraging its position with OLED panel suppliers to prevent excessive price increases for the iPhones.
Overall, Apple is working to mitigate the impact of supply chain disruptions and rising costs on its customers. While uncertainties remain, the company is striving to maintain competitive pricing and quality for its flagship devices.
