Indian AI Startup Scimplify Raises $25 Million to Expand Specialty Chemicals and Critical Materials Production

Scimplify, an Indian startup founded in 2023, has secured $25 million in funding to enhance its AI-powered approach to manufacturing specialty chemicals and critical materials. The company’s focus on semiconductors, defense, and energy sectors has positioned it for significant growth in key markets.

The recent all-equity strategic round, led by Hitachi Ventures, saw participation from customers Henkel and Teknor Apex, along with existing investors Accel India, Bertelsmann India Investments, Omnivore, and 3one4 Capital. Following this investment, Scimplify’s valuation has increased to $250 million, up from $150 million after a $40 million Series B round in March 2025. The startup has now raised a total of $80 million in equity funding.

With the increasing adoption of AI and advanced computational tools, materials discovery and research have accelerated. However, the process of transitioning from research to commercial production remains complex and time-consuming for manufacturers. Scimplify aims to streamline this process by leveraging its proprietary AI platform, Scinode.

Scimplify’s AI platform assists in developing chemical manufacturing processes at its research facilities in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, which are then transferred to partner factories for large-scale production. By utilizing specialized AI agents for research, manufacturing, and quality control, the platform helps identify suitable production routes and facilities while ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

Co-founder Sachin Santhosh highlighted the startup’s ability to deliver finished materials in just two months from receiving a customer’s requirements, a process that typically takes 12 to 18 months.

Expansion Plans and Market Growth

Currently, about 90% of Scimplify’s manufacturing operations are based in India. However, the company plans to expand its production network to the U.S. and Japan over the next year to attract more customers in these markets. The U.S. has emerged as a significant growth market for Scimplify, with annualized revenue in the country increasing sixfold to approximately $60 million.

Energy, electronics, and defense sectors now account for 45% to 50% of Scimplify’s revenue, a significant increase from less than 15% a year ago. The demand for materials in these industries has been fueled by AI advancements in electronics and energy infrastructure, as well as ongoing defense industry requirements.

Scimplify is actively working on producing tungsten derivatives from scrap and rare earth materials, providing customers with alternative sources for materials that are heavily reliant on Chinese supply chains.

Collaborations and Future Development

The startup collaborates with industry giants such as Japanese electronics manufacturer TDK, German chemicals group BASF, and Hitachi. One project involving TDK exemplifies Scimplify’s ability to expedite the development and delivery of specialty materials, with timelines varying based on the project requirements.

With the latest funding, Scimplify plans to allocate $7.5 million for its U.S. expansion, focusing on enhancing its manufacturing network. Additionally, $2 million will be invested in further developing Scinode, the company’s AI platform.

Employing approximately 340 people, including 70 scientists, Scimplify operates predominantly in India but also has local teams in the U.S., Japan, Indonesia, and the UAE.
