Google’s Changes to Search Interaction Storage

Google recently announced updates to how it handles user interactions with its Search feature. According to an email sent to users, Google will now store images, files, audio, and video used in searches under a new setting called “Search Services History.”

Utilization of Search Services History

The Search Services History data will be utilized by Google to enhance its services, develop AI models, and provide personalized suggestions and ads to users who opt for the “Personalized Recommendations” setting. These settings will now be distinct from the existing Web & App Activity option, which previously encompassed search interactions and some save toggles for audio recordings and visual searches.

Maintaining User Privacy Preferences

For users who have previously blocked Google from saving their search history through Web & App Activity, Google will ensure that the Search Services History remains deactivated during the transition period. Additionally, users’ personalization choices will be retained as these settings are gradually implemented in the coming months.
