HexSeed’s Diamond Coating Technology Raises €700k to Revolutionize AI Data Centre Cooling
HexSeed Technology Secures €700k in Funding for Carbon Capture Innovation
HexSeed Technology, a pioneering carbon capture and utilization (CCU) startup, has successfully raised over €700k (£600k) in early-stage funding. The company specializes in transforming captured CO₂ into high-value supermaterials, with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.
The funding round was led by Carbon13, a prominent investor in clean technology, with additional participation from the Net Zero Technology Centre and Vento Ventures. This investment milestone also triggered the unlocking of a Partnership Grant from Innovate UK, reinforcing HexSeed’s position as a leader in innovative environmental solutions.
CEO and co-founder of HexSeed, Mark Tandy, expressed his enthusiasm for the company’s future trajectory, stating, “Data centers are projected to consume a significant portion of UK grid capacity in the coming years, highlighting the urgent need for energy-efficient solutions. Our funding will propel the development of our low-temperature diamond coating technology, aiming to enhance the performance of GaN devices in addressing energy wastage.”
HexSeed Technology was established in late 2025 by a team of visionary founders, including Mark Tandy, Dr. Leonardo Santoni, and Dr. Michael Glerum, who collectively bring a wealth of expertise in business, chemistry, and engineering. The company’s collaboration with the University of Bristol underscores its commitment to cutting-edge research and innovation.
Revolutionizing Data Center Efficiency with Diamond Coating Technology
HexSeed’s groundbreaking technology has the potential to revolutionize energy efficiency in data centers, particularly those powering artificial intelligence. As global electricity consumption from data centers continues to rise, HexSeed aims to address the inefficiencies by leveraging Gallium nitride transistors and innovative diamond coatings.
While Gallium nitride transistors offer superior power conversion efficiency, heat management remains a critical challenge. HexSeed’s collaboration with University of Bristol experts, Professors Paul May and Martin Kuball, is focused on developing a low-carbon, low-temperature process for applying diamond coatings onto GaN devices without compromising their performance.
The company’s innovative approach involves a low-temperature microwave plasma process that effectively pulls heat away from GaN devices, enabling them to operate more efficiently and sustainably. By enhancing heat dissipation, HexSeed’s technology aims to prolong device lifespan, optimize performance, and reduce energy consumption in data center operations.
Future Outlook and Market Expansion
With the recent funding injection, HexSeed plans to advance its diamond coating process on commercial GaN power devices and initiate pilot customer engagements, targeting data center power conversion hardware as its primary market segment. The company’s strategic focus on sustainability and energy efficiency aligns with the growing demand for innovative solutions in the tech industry.
HexSeed’s commitment to environmental stewardship, technological innovation, and strategic partnerships positions it as a key player in the transition towards a more sustainable future. By harnessing the power of carbon capture and utilization, the company is paving the way for greener, more efficient data center operations and advancing the global shift towards a low-carbon economy.
