Amazon brings AI shopping assistant to retailers with Kate Spade

Amazon Launches AI Shopping Assistant Service for Retailers

Amazon has unveiled a new service called the Agentic Shopping Assistant that leverages its AI technology to assist retailers in enhancing their online shopping experience. Among the first brands to adopt this technology is Kate Spade.

With this service, retailers have the opportunity to create their own AI shopping assistants tailored to their specific catalogue, customer base, and brand identity. Amazon has repurposed its own technology, initially developed for its online store, to provide a scalable solution for other businesses.

Over 300 million customers utilized Amazon’s AI shopping assistant last year, resulting in nearly US$12 billion in additional sales. This service aims to expedite the deployment of conversational agents for retailers, reducing the time and resources required compared to building from scratch.

Kate Spade Implements AI for Gift Shopping

Kate Spade, under Tapestry ownership, has integrated the AI Gift Concierge, an AI-powered assistant that assists shoppers in finding gift options through natural conversation. The focus is on alleviating the stress associated with gift purchases, with research showing that 53% of shoppers experience stress during this process.

The AI assistant can suggest gifts based on occasions and customer preferences. Tapestry’s chief data and analytics officer, Fabio Luzzi, emphasized the importance of consumer feedback in developing this tool.

AWS Technology Driving the AI Assistant

The AI assistant utilizes Amazon Bedrock, AgentCore, and OpenSearch technologies. Bedrock serves as the foundation for generative AI applications, while AgentCore manages AI agents, and OpenSearch facilitates search and retrieval functions.

Amazon highlights that conversational shopping sessions yield significantly higher conversion rates compared to traditional keyword-based searches. This launch follows the introduction of Alexa for Shopping in the US, enabling users to ask shopping-related questions and receive conversational responses.
