Maserati Explores Dual Partnerships with Chinese Companies
Stellantis in Talks with Potential Partners for Maserati Brand
Stellantis has confirmed that it is currently engaged in discussions with two potential partners regarding the future of the Maserati brand. An official announcement is anticipated to be made before the end of 2026.
During a recent Italian parliament hearing, Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa verified this information, strengthening recent speculations about collaborations with Chinese companies like Huawei and JAC for upcoming electrified models under the Maserati brand.
Although the specifics of the partnership remain uncertain, reports suggest that Stellantis, Maserati’s parent company, has been collaborating with these entities to develop a model in conjunction with the Chinese luxury brand Maextro.
The anticipated Maextro model is set to debut in China in 2027 and may potentially bear the Maserati badge for global markets. Likely candidates for this model include the next Quattroporte or Levante, although the introduction of a new nameplate is also a possibility.
Recent events also saw Maserati unveiling refreshed versions of its GranTurismo coupe, GranCabrio convertible, and Grecale SUV via an online presentation. The brand emphasized its rich heritage during this event.
When questioned about the implications of a partnership with Chinese manufacturers, Maserati COO Santo Ficili emphasized the importance of finding a partner that respects and upholds the brand’s identity, regardless of their geographical location or background.
Ficili stated, “We need to seek out the right partners to uphold the brand’s essence, not just in China. Working with the best in the world is crucial, focusing on all aspects related to the product, including design, performance, materials, craftsmanship, and interior quality.”
Furthermore, Maserati previously announced plans to introduce an electric Quattroporte ‘Folgore’ sedan by 2025, signaling a shift towards electric propulsion across its lineup. However, the launch of this flagship model has been postponed to 2028, with potential considerations for a plug-in hybrid variant.
Looking ahead, Maserati’s upcoming Investor Day, scheduled for December 2026, will shed light on the brand’s future direction. Despite recent challenges and speculations about its future within Stellantis, Maserati remains committed to preserving its legacy and heritage.
Stay tuned for more updates on Maserati’s strategic partnerships and future product lineup as the brand continues its journey towards electrification and innovation.
