New Ford Mustang GTD Crushes the Corvette ZR1X's 'Ring Time to Become the Second Fastest American Car

The Ford Mustang GTD Competition Shatters Records at Nürburgring Nordschleife

The Ford Mustang GTD Competition, a powerhouse of American engineering, recently made headlines by setting a blistering lap time of 6:40.835 at the iconic Nürburgring Nordschleife. This remarkable achievement cements its position as the second fastest American car to conquer the legendary track, trailing only behind the Ford GT Mk IV.

This pre-production marvel not only outperformed its predecessor, the GTD, by a staggering 11 seconds but also left the Chevy Corvette ZR1X in its dust with a lead of nearly 8 points. The GTD Competition boasts enhanced specifications, including increased power, reduced weight, and upgraded grippy tires, along with aerodynamic add-ons that set it apart from its predecessors.

Earlier this month, Ford announced that the 800-plus-horsepower Ford GT Mk IV had claimed the title of the fastest American car to navigate the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The Corvette ZR1X secured the second spot with a lap time of 6:49.275, which was subsequently trumped by the GTD Competition’s impressive time of 6:40.835, falling just short of the GT Mk IV’s record-breaking time of 6:15.977.

The GTD Competition’s triumph over the previous record by 11 seconds is a testament to Ford’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of performance. Led by professional driver Dirk Müller, the GTD Competition clocked a remarkable time of 6:52.072 in its previous lap.

This extreme version of the Mustang GTD represents the pinnacle of Ford’s engineering prowess, offering unparalleled performance while still maintaining a factory warranty. It now joins the ranks of other production-eligible supercars such as the Porsche 991 GT2 RS and the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series.
