Personalize Your AI Experience: Choosing Your Favorite Model in iOS 27
Apple to Introduce Customizable AI Models in Next Operating System Update
In the upcoming update to Apple’s operating systems, users will have the ability to select their preferred AI model for Apple Intelligence. As reported by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple is set to allow third-party chatbots to power its AI features across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, expected to be released this fall. Along with Siri, these third-party AI models, known as “Extensions,” will also be capable of running other Apple Intelligence functions such as Writing Tools and Image Playground.
Gurman further reveals that Apple will enable users to choose different Siri voices for various AI models. This means that Siri responses generated by Apple’s AI models can have one voice, while those from an AI model like ChatGPT can have a different voice.
Users will have the option to select AI model providers that have integrated support through their respective App Store apps. Once an appropriate AI app is installed, users can designate it as their preferred AI choice through the Settings app. Gurman mentions that Apple is currently testing integrations with Google and Anthropic’s AI models internally. While Google’s models are set to power Apple’s upcoming Siri enhancement, ChatGPT is the sole third-party AI model integrated into Apple Intelligence thus far, a situation that may change in the near future.
