Mach Industries Raises $300 Million in Series C Funding

Mach Industries, a three-year-old defense tech startup founded and led by 22-year-old CEO Ethan Thornton, has announced a successful $300 million Series C funding round at a valuation of $1.8 billion. This marks a significant increase from the company’s previous valuation of $470 million in June 2025, when it raised $100 million. The funding round was led by deep tech fund Infinite Capital and Ribbit Capital, with participation from investors such as Bedrock Capital, Sequoia Capital, and Khosla Ventures.

Thornton, who dropped out of MIT at 19 to start Mach Industries, has seen rapid growth and success with the company. The decision to raise $300 million was met with overwhelming investor interest, leading to oversubscription at the initial $200 million target. The company now boasts five autonomous vehicles in development, with plans to begin production on three of these systems next year.

In a strategic move, Mach Industries recently secured a Department of Defense contract to develop a new “runway-independent strike aircraft” for the Navy. This undisclosed project, along with the company’s existing lineup of autonomous vehicles, positions Mach Industries as a key player in the defense tech industry.

Additionally, Mach Industries made headlines with its acquisition of solid rocket motor startup Exquadrum in a $50 million cash-and-equity deal. This acquisition not only provides Mach Industries with control over rocket motor production but also opens up new commercial opportunities through Mach Energetics, a subsidiary focused on selling the engines.

With a growing team of 350 employees and multiple production facilities in the pipeline, Mach Industries continues to push the boundaries of product development in the defense tech space. Thornton emphasizes the company’s commitment to delivering fast and affordable solutions to the military and commercial sectors, challenging the traditional slow-paced approach of legacy defense contractors.

Reflecting on the company’s exponential growth, Thornton recalls the evolution from small conference room meetings to standing-room-only gatherings, highlighting the rapid pace at which Mach Industries has expanded its operations and capabilities. As the industry continues to evolve, Mach Industries stands at the forefront of innovation and disruption, driving change in the defense tech landscape.
