Revier Therapeutics: Pioneering Cardiometabolic Therapies with €6 Million Funding
Revier Therapeutics, a BioTech company based in Heidelberg, is dedicated to developing disease-modifying therapies for patients with cardiometabolic diseases. The company has recently launched and successfully completed a Seed financing round totaling €6 million.
Leading the funding round is the KHAN Technology Transfer Fund II, with contributions from High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), VORNvc, and private investors through Revier Invest Heidelberg.
Prof. Eva van Rooij, PhD, who is a co-founder and the CEO of Revier Therapeutics, emphasized the need for more targeted treatments for patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). The company aims to address the underlying disease mechanisms to provide long-term solutions for patients.
Revier Therapeutics is focusing on selectively targeting class IIa histone deacetylases (HDACs) to treat cardiometabolic diseases. The company’s small molecules are designed to inhibit pathogenic enzymatic activity while preserving healthy biological functions, avoiding traditional HDAC inhibition.
Prof. Johannes Backs, MD, the scientific founder of Revier Therapeutics, highlighted the precision of the company’s first-in-class small molecules in targeting class IIa HDACs. These compounds aim to inhibit disease-driving activities while maintaining essential functions, potentially offering effective treatment with a favorable safety profile.
The seed financing for Revier Therapeutics received support from various regional stakeholders and investors, with Daniel Stern, founder of Revier Invest Heidelberg, leading the coalition.
Michael Hamacher, PhD, Managing Partner and CFO at KHAN Technology Transfer Fund II, praised Revier’s differentiated approach in cardiometabolic disease and its potential to deliver disease-modifying medicines. The company’s focus on class IIa HDACs presents an opportunity to reshape the standard of care for patients with HFpEF, ASCVD, and related conditions.
Revier Therapeutics plans to utilize the funding to advance its preclinical cardiometabolic pipeline, focusing on HFpEF and ASCVD programs, as well as enhancing its operational, scientific, and clinical capabilities.
