Revolutionizing Healthcare Compliance: AWS and Bluesight’s AI Solution for Hospital 340B Compliance
AWS and Bluesight Collaboration in Developing Prism AI for Hospital Pharmacy Compliance
Amazon Web Services (AWS) recently collaborated with Bluesight to develop Prism, an AI layer that seamlessly connects hospital pharmacy and compliance data across Bluesight’s product suite. This innovative solution aims to streamline manual processes and enhance efficiency in hospital pharmacy operations.
Prism Assistant for ControlCheck Reaches General Availability
Prism Assistant for ControlCheck has now reached general availability and is currently operational in 20 health systems. This tool assists hospital pharmacy teams in identifying unusual medication transaction patterns and automates the process of assembling reports and reviewing dashboards for compliance purposes.
Bluesight engineers, in collaboration with AWS specialists, worked together to build the first version of Prism Assistant in just three days during an Experience-Based Acceleration engagement. This demonstrates the agility and effectiveness of the tools developed by Bluesight and AWS.
The deployment of Prism Assistant has significantly reduced query latency, from five minutes to just 10 seconds. Additionally, the frontend features of the tool include chart generation, observability controls, cost attribution, encryption, authentication, and infrastructure-as-code.
Samir Neyazi, Director of Product Management at Bluesight, emphasized the benefits of Prism Assistant, stating that it accelerates the investigation process and eliminates manual tasks for diversion program leaders.
Bluesight deployed Prism Assistant within a virtual private cloud, achieving general availability in under nine months. The successful implementation of Prism Assistant in 20 health systems serves as evidence of its effectiveness in enhancing compliance and pharmacy operations.
Multi-Agent 340B Compliance Solution Targets GPO Purchases
Bluesight is also working on a multi-agent compliance solution to target GPO purchases in accordance with federal 340B rules. This solution integrates records from CostCheck, ShortageCheck, and 340BCheck to ensure compliance with regulations.
The proposed architecture utilizes advanced models such as Anthropic Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Claude Haiku 4.5 for efficient operations. The coordination of the GPO agent involves specialist data workers who retrieve purchase records, gather supply evidence, and validate 340B eligibility.
Bluesight conducted a second AWS acceleration engagement in March 2026 to test the architecture and reported positive outcomes. The compliance determination service evaluates multiple evidence inputs, applies priority-based matching, and uses configurable time windows to ensure accurate compliance decisions.
While automated assistance is provided, Bluesight emphasizes the importance of human oversight in configuring policy settings related to compliance decisions. Each organization must set and approve its own policy rules to ensure compliance with regulations.
Ensuring HIPAA Compliance and Audit Traces
Bluesight ensures HIPAA compliance by using Amazon Bedrock and operating under a Business Associate Agreement with AWS. The deployment also includes Amazon Cognito for authentication, AgentCore Runtime for session isolation, and AWS Key Management Service for data encryption.
Amazon CloudWatch records agent decisions, tool invocations, data-access events, alarms, and performance metrics to provide an audit trail for compliance purposes. This ensures transparency and accountability in compliance decisions.
Bluesight’s internal measurements across 20 health systems demonstrate significant improvements in report generation and analysis efficiency. The deployment of Prism Assistant has led to faster workflows and reduced manual tasks for pharmacy and compliance teams.
It is essential for teams to conduct thorough testing and validation of compliance decisions before implementing agent-assisted results. Local testing should focus on data completeness, drug-code matching, shortage timing, exception rules, and cases where human reviewers have previously disagreed.
Overall, the collaboration between AWS and Bluesight in developing Prism and the multi-agent compliance solution showcases the innovative use of AI in enhancing efficiency and compliance in hospital pharmacy operations.
