To sum up:

Tech Advisor has reported that Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a re-engineered hinge that provides a more decisive folding action but reduces flexibility at certain angles.
This hinge compromise greatly enhances crease control, making the display almost creaseless like the Oppo Find N6, addressing a common issue with foldable phones.
Samsung is set to unveil the Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22nd, focusing on display quality over traditional hinge versatility.

Samsung may have had to make a compromise on a feature of its upcoming foldables in order to achieve a creaseless display.

The company is gearing up to announce its new foldable lineup in just a few weeks, with expectations running high. Alongside a new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) model, Samsung appears poised to refine the design of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra – the successor to the Z Fold 7.

According to reliable Samsung leaker Ice Universe, the latter will introduce a new approach to a persistent issue with foldables: how to address the internal display crease.

In an effort to minimize the crease on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, Samsung has chosen to redesign the hinge. The folding action now feels “noticeably different,” with a more “decisive” feel.

The hinge feel of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series is noticeably different from previous generations.

To further improve the crease, Samsung has made the folding and unfolding action more decisive. In other words, it is no longer as easy to hold at certain angles as before.

Flexibility is Key

As a result of this modification, it is now “no longer as easy to hold at certain angles as before,” indicating a change in the hinge mechanism for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 devices.

This change in hinge functionality means that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 devices may not offer the same range of display angles as their predecessors. Yet, the trade-off seems worthwhile, as it results in “a significant enhancement in crease control.”

The leaker draws a comparison between the minimal crease of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and that of the Oppo Find N6, which boasts an almost creaseless display launched earlier this year.

Will these improvements position the Z Fold 8 models as top contenders in the foldable market? With Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for July 22, the answer will soon be revealed.
