Why Samsung Hasn’t Adopted Built-in Qi2 Technology Yet

The absence of built-in Qi2 magnets is a major disappointment for many Samsung users. After Google’s Pixel 10 series introduced the technology, the expectation was that other leading brands would follow suit.

However, Samsung’s latest models, including the Galaxy S26 lineup and the new S26 FE, have chosen not to incorporate this feature. Instead, they rely on external cases for Qi2 compatibility.

During a conversation with Kadesh Beckford, Samsung’s Smartphone Specialist Product Manager, before the launch of the Galaxy S26 FE, the question of why Samsung hasn’t integrated Qi2 technology was raised.

Beckford highlighted the widespread use of phone cases as a key factor influencing Samsung’s decision:

“I personally use cases on my devices, and we’ve noticed a high number of users, especially in the UK, who also use cases on their phones,” he explained. Beckford referred to a 2023 YouGov survey showing that 71% of respondents used a case or cover on their phone.

He further suggested that Samsung is content with Qi2 support being an optional feature through cases, rather than a built-in requirement.
