Microsoft Leaks New Xbox Controller with Wi-Fi for Cloud Gaming

Earlier this year, I shared details about Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox controller featuring Wi-Fi connectivity for direct access to Xbox Cloud Gaming servers. Recent images from Brazil’s Anatel regulator have now revealed the design of this leaked controller.

Tecnoblog has released images showcasing the new, compact Xbox controller, resembling third-party options from brands like 8BitDo and HyperX. This controller, developed by Microsoft, boasts 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 5.3, and a USB-C port. It features a pairing button, D-Pad, bumpers, and triggers.

Leaked photos depict both white and black models of the new controller, which is expected to come with a built-in rechargeable 500mAh battery. Unlike Microsoft’s current Xbox controllers, which mostly use AA batteries, this new model offers a more convenient power solution.

Initially planned for 2024 alongside a canceled Xbox Series X refresh, the new Xbox Cloud Gaming controller is a separate project aimed at enhancing Microsoft’s cloud gaming initiatives through Game Pass. This controller will directly connect to Xbox Cloud Gaming servers to minimize latency, similar to Google Stadia’s controller functionality. Additionally, Microsoft is exploring free ad-supported access to cloud games and is rumored to be launching the Xbox Elite Controller Series 3 later this year.
