Soviet Nightmare: The Haunting of Ringwyrm

Ringwyrm might have a nasty sounding name, but its action horror, fantasy Soviet vibes are too compelling to ignore

Exploring the Immersive Action Horror Shooter Ringwyrm

The late 90s/early 2000s era of video marketing had its share of negatives, but there was a certain edginess that some find charming. Ringwyrm, an immersive action horror shooter recently unveiled, evokes nostalgia for that era with its tagline potential of “The only time you’ll be happy you’ve got Ringwyrm.” Unfortunately, times have changed.

Developed by Scumhead, the team behind Mohrta, Ringwyrm offers a blend of fantastical and Soviet aesthetics in a murky, dirty world. Described as nonlinear and interconnected, the game promises architectural intrigue and a boomer shooter experience.

The gameplay of Ringwyrm introduces a unique twist on survival horror elements. Players must stand still to aim their gun, sacrificing mobility for accuracy. This mechanic adds a layer of challenge, especially in the first-person perspective common in survival horror games.

In terms of story, Ringwyrm unfolds sixteen years after Schovekia’s defeat in the Iron War. The remnants of Schovek have found a new home on Umbral Isle, where a mysterious substance called ‘Milk’ alters their society. Players assume the role of Edna Gotts, a war orphan caught in a military operation with her sisters.

While Ringwyrm’s release date is set for 2027, eager players can wishlist the game on Steam for future updates.
