Tech Theft Leads to Arrest of Bank Robber

From a Jersey Shore man losing his iPhone and Rolex during a disturbance to a Korean broadcaster having his MacBook stolen and recovered in Mexico, these cases highlight the importance of device security.

A man from Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, reported that his iPhone and Rolex watch were stolen during a disturbance on North State Route 44 in Watson Township. The stolen items were valued at $500 and $30,000, respectively. The incident involved a 2013 silver Chevrolet Silverado, and the investigation is ongoing.

In another incident, an unidentified person entered a Children’s Aid Society building in the Bronx and stole an iPad and a laptop. The NYPD is seeking information to identify the culprit involved in the burglary at the Bronx Family Services Center on East 176th St.

A South Korean broadcaster, Kim Hwan, had his MacBook stolen from a hotel lobby in Guadalajara, Mexico, while covering the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Despite losing cash, credit cards, and ID, Kim was able to recover his MacBook and iPad by tracking them to a Walmart and a vacant lot behind it.

In a surprising turn of events, an iPad stolen from a car led the police to a wanted federal bank robber in Texas. The stolen iPad was tracked to a specific address in Montgomery County, where the suspect, Michael Austin, was found with multiple outstanding warrants, including one for federal bank robbery.

The use of technology, such as Flock traffic cameras, played a crucial role in solving the cases mentioned above. Constable Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden emphasized the importance of technology and investigations working together to protect the community.
