Jason Voorhees Joins Dead by Daylight: A New Killer Arrives

Behaviour has officially announced that Jason Voorhees will be the next killer to join Dead by Daylight, just in time for the game’s 10th anniversary celebration. Fans can expect to see this iconic horror film character in action starting June 16th, with early access available from May 26th in the Steam Public Test Build.

Update 25/05 – Detailed information regarding Jason’s arrival in Dead by Daylight has been revealed.

Jason Voorhees will be entering The Fog as a new killer, adding to the roster of horror icons in the game. It’s important to note that this collaboration is focused solely on Jason and does not include any survivors from the Friday the 13th films.

Robby Barsamian, Executive Vice President at Horror, Inc., expressed excitement about bringing Jason into the game, stating, “Our fans have been eager to see Jason in Dead by Daylight since its launch. We are delighted to make the 10th anniversary celebration even more special for fans, and we look forward to players experiencing the unique gameplay and killer new skins that only Jason can offer.”

Jason will possess two distinct abilities upon his arrival in Dead by Daylight:

Omnipresent Evil – This active ability allows Jason to vanish from the map completely, moving at an increased speed without revealing his location to survivors. While invisible, Jason can only track survivors through subtle visual cues. To reappear, he must reach certain environmental points such as Pallets, Vault points, and breakable walls, bursting back into view and potentially destroying obstacles in the process.

Improvised Carnage – Jason can utilize objects found throughout the map to create makeshift projectiles, including fragments of Lockers, Generator parts, broken Pallets, and Hooks. These projectiles can be thrown with force at survivors, potentially pinning them in place if they are near a wall. Jason can only carry one projectile at a time, and new ones can only be obtained when he activates his Omnipresent Evil ability.

Behaviour has been granted the freedom to explore the universe of Jason Voorhees in Dead by Daylight, allowing for a long-term partnership without the constraints of rights and intellectual property issues that plagued previous games featuring the character. Additionally, they have drawn inspiration from various sources to create unique outfits for Jason.

Jason’s Outfits

In addition to his classic look featuring a hockey mask, machete, and rugged clothing, Jason will have the following outfits available:

  • Backwoods Terror: This outfit swaps Jason’s jacket for flannel and suspenders, and his machete for a heavy axe.
  • Death Forsaken: A grotesque incarnation with decayed features, exposed bone, and a shovel in hand.
  • Depths of Despair Outfit: Jason emerges from the depths covered in barnacles, coral, and seaweed, presenting a terrifying vision.

With Dead by Daylight celebrating its 10th anniversary and the addition of Jason Voorhees as a new killer, fans can look forward to exciting gameplay experiences and a nod to the game’s early days. While the game initially launched in 2016, the arrival of Jason adds a new chapter to the horror stories within the game, showcasing Behaviour’s ability to introduce diverse characters from various horror genres and IPs.
