Similar to its predecessor, the Ring 5 offers a Charging Case as an accessory for on-the-go battery top-ups. This optional accessory is priced at £99/$99/€109 and must match the size of your Oura Ring 5.
Furthermore, an Oura Membership is required to fully utilize the smart ring’s features. The membership costs £5.99/$5.99 per month or £69.99/$69.99 per year.
What are the Oura Ring 5 upgrades and new features?
Prior to the announcement of the Oura Ring 5, leaks indicated that the device would primarily focus on design enhancements, particularly in terms of slimness and weight. However, Oura has introduced several improvements and upgrades to the smart ring.
Let’s explore the key new features.
A sleeker design
If the previous Oura rings felt too bulky for your liking, the Ring 5 addresses that concern. Oura claims that it is the smallest smart ring globally, being 40% smaller than the Ring 4.
With a width of 6.09mm, thickness of 2.28mm, and weighing as little as 2g for smaller sizes, the Ring 5 offers a significantly lighter and more compact design. This reduction in size was made possible by new low-profile sensor domes and an innovative battery design, resulting in a more durable frame compared to its predecessor.
The Ring 5 features a non-allergenic titanium interior and exterior, complemented by an enhanced scratch-resistant physical vapor deposition coating. Additionally, it boasts a water resistance rating of 100m.
Available in US sizes 6-13 and five color options – Silver, Black, Gold, Stealth, Brushed Silver, and Deep Rose – the Ring 5 provides a variety of choices for consumers.
Although a Ceramic Edition similar to the Ring 4 has not been mentioned yet, it may be introduced at a later stage.
More accurate sensors
While it was initially anticipated that the Ring 5 would retain the same sensor technology as the Ring 4, the new low-profile sensor domes house more potent LEDs and 12 stronger signal pathways, resulting in heightened data accuracy from your finger.
The Ring 5 is purported to deliver improved accuracy in recording metrics such as overnight heart rate, workout heart rate, and overall signal quality.
Longer battery life
Considering the Ring 5 is 40% smaller than its predecessor, maintaining the same battery life would be a remarkable feat, albeit a slight reduction might be expected.
Surprisingly, the Ring 5 offers extended battery life compared to the Ring 4, with a duration of up to 6-9 days. The actual duration between charges may vary based on ring size and usage, but these figures surpass the Ring 4’s battery life by a day, despite the slimmer design.

Additionally, the optional Ring 5 Charging Case provides the convenience of recharging the ring up to five times, regardless of your location, without the need for a wall socket.
Live tracking and new health features
While hardware is essential, software plays a crucial role in the success of a product, particularly when the smart ring lacks a screen and requires a subscription fee for service.
Oura has introduced a range of new features, which appear to be available for older generation rings as well.
Live Activity Tracking allows users to monitor key metrics during workouts, such as pace and distance for activities like running, cycling, and strength training, via the app or lock screen widgets.
Health Radar, an extension of Symptom Radar introduced in 2024, continuously monitors key biometrics to detect patterns that may require attention, enabling users to take proactive measures to prevent issues such as exhaustion.
Another new feature, Blood Pressure Signals, detects shifts in cardiovascular strain, alerting users to potential signs of increased blood pressure. This monitoring also extends to nighttime, known as Nighttime Blood Pressure.

Oura
Additionally, Nighttime Breathing monitors breathing patterns during sleep, offering insights into sleep-related patterns and disturbances over a 30-day period.
Moreover, Oura Health Records allow users to connect with eligible healthcare providers to import diagnosed conditions, medications, lab results, and more. This feature is currently available in 43 states in the US.
Health Radar, including Blood Pressure Signals and Nighttime Blood Pressure, will be accessible in the US, India, and the United Arab Emirates starting June 2026.
