The Unseen Samsung Galaxy Feature Causing Headaches: A Tech Advisor’s Insight
When considering the reasons behind eye strain from looking at our phone screens, factors such as the small screen size, close proximity to our eyes, and awkward viewing angles typically come to mind. However, one particular factor that caught my attention was the presence of PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) Flicker on OLED screens, which could potentially contribute to the rapid onset of headaches.
This revelation left me startled. Could it be that my phone’s display was inadvertently causing me discomfort? Delving deep into extensive research, I discovered that indeed, PWM Flicker could be a significant culprit behind such issues, and I was not the only one affected.
Understanding PWM Dimming
PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) is a prevalent display technology utilized by most phone manufacturers to regulate screen brightness. Rather than directly adjusting the light intensity, PWM involves rapidly turning the screen on and off numerous times per second to create the illusion of dimming.
This technique is imperceptible to the human eye, making it an effective method for achieving reduced screen brightness while maintaining image quality. In contrast, traditional DC dimming, commonly found in LCD panels, diminishes the electrical current supplied to the display, potentially distorting colors and consuming more power.
