- Future developments for the F66 include exhaust systems and additional aero parts, with plans also in place for the F67 convertible.
3D Design, renowned for producing carbon bodywork for BMW and MINI models, has introduced its aero program for the MINI John Cooper Works F66. The kit consists of four wet carbon fiber pieces: a front lip spoiler, side skirts, rear diffuser, and roof spoiler, all featuring a 1×1 weave.
The company describes this program as more aggressive than its offerings for previous MINI generations. Contrasting with their work on F56 or R55/R56 models, this kit exudes a sharper, sportier aesthetic.
Front Lip Spoiler and Side Skirts
The front lip spoiler replaces the original black plastic splitters on both sides without adding a separate element in front of the bumper, resulting in a cleaner, more integrated appearance. In contrast to typical aftermarket lips, this spoiler sits flush with the bumper line.
The side skirts overlay the original sills rather than replacing them, providing both a visual enhancement and aiding in reducing airflow resistance around the tires, particularly beneficial for a front-wheel-drive car like the F66 with 231 horsepower.
Rear Diffuser and Character Lines
The rear diffuser entirely replaces the stock unit, opting for a cleaner design with fewer fins and less surface noise. The design seamlessly blends with the car’s original character lines, showcasing 3D Design’s attention to detail and continuity in design approach.
The Roof Spoiler Is The Interesting One
The standout piece in the aero kit is the roof spoiler, featuring a wingtip plate form rarely seen in road car applications. This unconventional design decision, aimed at reducing induced drag by managing airflow at the tips, demonstrates 3D Design’s innovative approach tailored specifically for the JCW.
More To Come For The F66 And F67
3D Design’s F66 program is expanding, with plans for exhaust systems, additional aero parts, and diffuser options for the F67 convertible in the works. Given the company’s history of active involvement with various BMW platforms, it is expected that the F66 program will continue to evolve beyond its current offerings.
