Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe: A Bold Vision or Unstoppable Project?

Was the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe a daring innovation or a venture that couldn’t be halted once set in motion?

According to reports from the media, a Mercedes-Benz executive, who chose to remain anonymous, confessed that one of their electric models was deemed unnecessary. These statements carry significant weight, especially when they come from an insider.

By the time concerns were raised, it was already too late to backtrack. The development had progressed too far, and the vehicles had to be launched despite the doubts. The financial investment alone was substantial.

Reports indicate that over $1 billion was allocated to AMG’s electric performance initiatives, with additional investments in projects such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS and EQE SUV totaling approximately $5.7 million.

Such extensive spending would be more easily justified if the outcomes met expectations. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Sales of the EQ range purportedly plummeted by as much as 90% in 2024. The executive remarked, “It became apparent that these vehicles were the biggest failures in the company’s history.”

Despite these revelations, reports suggest that Mercedes-AMG is actively developing an even more potent GT 4-Door Coupe EV. Rumors have emerged about a partially camouflaged prototype being observed during testing.
