The Myst Universe: A Glimpse into the Cancelled Project Anglerfish

Delving into the world of Myst has always been a favorite pastime here at RPS. When Cyan Worlds released a teaser for a new game set in the Mystverse, our interest was piqued. However, this project, codenamed Project Anglerfish, has since been cancelled.

According to creative director Eric Anderson, the team spent four months developing a prototype for the game. The teaser trailer, initially intended for publishers only, was shared to showcase the team’s hard work. Unfortunately, due to various reasons, Project Anglerfish was discontinued and will not be released in its current form.

Development director Hannah Gamiel expressed that despite the setback, Cyan Worlds is proud of the team’s efforts and creativity. The teaser trailer featured a man in a green cardigan enlisting help to search a mansion for a mysterious book that must remain closed. As the search progresses, the atmosphere becomes increasingly eerie, with strange occurrences and the requester’s behavior turning unsettling.

Looking ahead, Cyan Worlds remains dedicated to creating new games and experiences within the Myst universe. While details are scarce at the moment, the studio is actively working on future projects. However, it’s worth noting that Cyan Worlds faced challenges last March when they had to lay off half of their team to focus on securing financing for their upcoming endeavors.

Despite the setback with Project Anglerfish, the team at Cyan Worlds continues to innovate and explore new possibilities within the Myst universe. Stay tuned for updates on their upcoming projects as they strive to deliver captivating experiences for fans of the iconic franchise.
