Valve is phasing out physical Steam gift cards due to scammers

Steam Discontinues Physical Gift Card Sales in Stores

After more than ten years, Valve has announced that Steam will no longer offer physical gift cards for sale in stores. This decision comes as a response to ongoing issues with scammers targeting Steam customers and other individuals.

Valve has taken steps to combat gift card scams, including collaborating with law enforcement and implementing warnings on gift cards. Despite these efforts, scammers have found ways to adapt their tactics, prompting Valve to discontinue the sale of physical gift cards.

Since introducing physical gift cards in 2012, Valve now anticipates that these cards will be completely sold out by the end of 2026. However, existing gift card holders can still use their cards on Steam as usual. Valve will also continue to offer digital gift cards for purchase.
