BMW Recalls Over 58,700 Vehicles With the Air Conditioning Wiring Issues

BMW North America has issued a recall for over 58,700 vehicles due to issues with the air conditioning wiring system. The affected vehicles were manufactured between the 2024 and 2026 model years, as reported in documents filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that certain BMW models may have been equipped with a damaged air conditioning wiring harness during the replacement of the cabin air filter. This damaged wiring harness poses a risk of short circuiting, potentially leading to a fire hazard.

The recall encompasses a variety of BMW models, including M5 Tourings, M5 sedans, 550 xDrive, i5, 7 series, i7, and 750e xDrive. A total of approximately 11,917 vehicles are affected, with inspections and replacements to be carried out free of charge.

Affected customers will receive notification letters from BMW on April 13, detailing the necessary steps to take their vehicles to the nearest dealership for inspection. A new retainer clip will be installed on each model to prevent future incidents related to the recall.

For those who wish to check if their car is affected before April 13, they can contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417. The NHTSA tool for checking the status of the vehicle will be available after the notification date.
