4A Games has unveiled Metro 2039, the highly anticipated next installment in their renowned series, set to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC this upcoming winter season.
Transport yourself into the Moscow Metro system once again, but this time in the year 2039. The factions have now united under the Novoreich and a new leader, Spartan Hunter. The authoritarian regime is rife with propaganda, misinformation, and indoctrination.
Enter the story as The Stranger, the lead protagonist who reluctantly returns to the Metro, haunted by past nightmares and facing mutated creatures and human adversaries.
The reveal trailer showcases a mix of CGI cutscenes and gameplay snippets, highlighting the detailed environment and atmospheric lighting powered by the latest iteration of the 4A Engine.
During the 15-minute stream, Executive Producer Jon Bloch, Creative Director Andriy Shevchenko, and Co-Creative Director & Lead Audio Designer Pavel Ulmer provided additional insights into the game.
Originally hailing from Ukraine, 4A Games has been developing Metro 2039 amidst the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine since 2022. The team, spread across Kyiv and Malta, remains dedicated to creating an authentic Metro experience.
The ongoing conflict has influenced the game’s narrative, focusing on choices, actions, consequences, and the price of securing a future from a Ukrainian perspective.
Metro 2039 development continues in Ukraine and Malta, with 4A Games supporting its homeland and team members affected by the war. Contributions to support Ukraine can be made through the Official Fundraising Platform of Ukraine: United24.
