Crafting Our Dream BMW iX3: Budget-Friendly Luxury at $72,000

iX3 in Space Silver, front, from configurator

The iX3 configurator has officially launched, allowing us to take the next step of building our own version of BMW’s first Neue Klasse SUV. This electric vehicle boasts impressive range, cutting-edge technology, and a fresh design language. However, the real fun begins when you start customizing it in the configurator. From choosing the paint color and wheels to selecting interior trim and optional packages, every decision can significantly impact the final look and feel of the vehicle.

When it came to our build, we had to decide between the Sport and M Sport Professional options. Opting for the more aggressive M Sport design was a no-brainer, especially with the added benefits of M Sport brakes and steering wheel. We chose the Space Silver metallic paint color, which perfectly complemented the sleek and modern exterior of the iX3. For wheels, we went with the bi-color Style 1051M wheels, as they added a unique retro vibe to the overall look.

Moving on to the interior, we decided on the BMW M Black upholstery, which featured blue contrast stitching, Alcantara/PerformTex accents, and discreet M badges. This combination created a sophisticated and sporty interior that perfectly matched the exterior aesthetics.

In terms of must-have options, we added the Comfort Package for a panoramic glass roof, heated steering wheel, and multi-functional seats. The Technology Package, which included a 3D Head-Up Display and premium sound system, also made it onto our list. We decided to skip the Highway & Commuting Assistant package due to the additional yearly subscription cost.

Standalone options were kept to a minimum, with the addition of 3-zone rear climate control being the only extra feature we included. With the destination fee included, our customized iX3 came out to a total of $71,750. Considering the impressive range, advanced technology, and overall performance of the SUV, we felt this price was reasonable.
