Apple is known for its “trust but verify” approach when it comes to purchases made through its educational discount program, but recent changes are on the horizon. Apple will be implementing a more formal verification process to ensure that those taking advantage of educational discounts actually meet the eligibility requirements.

Previously, Apple only required educational customers in certain countries, like the UK, to provide proof of their status. However, in most cases, customers were simply trusted to meet the requirements when purchasing educational hardware and software. Now, Apple is expanding its verification program to countries like the US, Canada, Australia, and others, requiring customers to go through an automated pre-verification process before making a purchase from the education store.

This new online process will involve customers verifying their academic status through UNiDAYS, either via the website or iPhone app. Students can typically do this by logging into their school’s academic portal or using an official email associated with their college or university. In some cases, additional identity documents may be required, such as photo ID, student ID, transcript, or enrollment letter.

The verification process is designed to be quick and efficient, with most verifications happening instantly. However, manual reviews may take up to 24 hours to receive a decision. This new system aims to eliminate any confusion around eligibility for Apple’s educational discounts, clarifying that only faculty and staff of K-12 institutions, post-secondary students, or parents of these students are eligible.

Additionally, Apple has introduced the Apple Watch to its list of eligible products for educational discounts, expanding the range of products available to students and educators. This change may have been influenced by the popularity of the new MacBook Neo, which is priced competitively and in high demand.

By tightening the rules around educational discounts and requiring verification, Apple aims to ensure that only eligible customers can take advantage of these discounts. This move will help Apple manage pricing pressures while still providing affordable options for institutions and students who qualify for educational discounts. Transform the following sentence:
