This week’s iDrop News Apple Crime Log covers the recent arrest made by federal authorities in connection with a violent hijacking of an Apple delivery truck. Additionally, we delve into why Apple products are often targeted by thieves.

Federal Authorities Apprehend Three in Violent Apple Delivery Truck Hijacking

Three individuals have been apprehended by federal prosecutors for their alleged involvement in the violent hijacking of an Apple delivery truck outside a shopping center in New York. The suspects managed to steal over one million dollars’ worth of Apple products, including iPhones, MacBooks, and various accessories, as reported by ABC News.

The armed robbery occurred in January and resulted in the theft of more than $1.2 million in Apple devices and accessories, such as Apple Watches, iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, and related items. Authorities describe the incident as a meticulously planned operation, with the suspects forcing delivery personnel into a truck at gunpoint and then transferring the stolen goods to another vehicle.

Individuals Alan Christhofer Cedeno-Ferrer, Michael Mejia-Nunez, and Ennait Alexis Sirett-Padilla reportedly masked themselves and armed with handguns before confronting the delivery workers unloading Apple merchandise at the Manhasset-area shopping center.

During the heist, a black Honda Accord pulled up beside the delivery truck, and the armed individuals proceeded to subdue the workers before relocating them to a nearby spot. One worker was restrained with zip ties inside the truck, while another was compelled to drive the vehicle to a secluded parking area at an office building. Subsequently, the workers were confined in the cargo area while the thieves transferred the Apple products to a second vehicle.

Surveillance footage revealed that the perpetrators used a Home Depot box truck to transport the stolen goods to a secondary location. By aligning the cargo compartments of the trucks, the thieves were able to swiftly transfer the Apple products without attracting attention.

Although the delivery workers were unharmed, they were locked inside the truck while still bound with zip ties. One worker managed to free himself and contact authorities.

The three suspects pleaded not guilty in federal court and are currently held without bail pending their trial.

Apple product shipments are frequently targeted by thieves due to the high resale value and ease of transport. These heists occur before the products even reach retail stores, with Apple devices being particularly attractive targets.

In a separate incident in March, a 64-year-old man from Florida was charged with stealing nearly $2 million worth of iPhones from a FedEx facility in Doral. Jeffrey Moore was arrested for allegedly taking 38 boxes containing iPhone 17 Pro Max phones, totaling almost 1,800 devices.

Despite Apple’s theft deterrent measures like device management systems and Activation Lock, stolen Apple hardware remains valuable through unauthorized resale channels and parts harvesting operations.
