Caterham Revs Up: Project V Electric Sports Car Hits the Track
The Caterham Project V: A New Era of Electric Sports Cars
The iconic British automaker, Caterham, is making waves in the automotive world with the testing of its latest creation – the electric sports car known as Project V. Recently, the company unveiled fresh footage of the prototype undergoing rigorous real-world testing on the circuit, signaling a significant step forward in the development process.
Evolution from Concept to Reality
Originally showcased as a concept at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2023, the Caterham Project V has since undergone a remarkable transformation into a more concrete form. The prototype, which made its debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon, has stayed true to its original design while incorporating some notable enhancements.
Design and Performance Upgrades
One of the key design changes includes the adoption of round rear lights in place of the previous polygonal units, giving the car a sleeker and more modern appearance. Additionally, the steering setup has been simplified for improved handling. Inside, the Project V now boasts four seats, a departure from the concept’s unconventional three-seat layout.
Power and Efficiency
Equipped with an electric motor sourced from Yamaha, the Caterham Project V is set to deliver a robust 268 horsepower. Despite modest figures on paper, the electric vehicle is expected to weigh around 3,153 pounds, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in under five seconds. The car’s range is estimated at 249 miles, with the ability to achieve a rapid 20-80% charge in just 20 minutes.
