Revving Up: My Obsession with Forza Horizon 6 Goes Beyond Racing
For the past week, my evenings have been filled with the exhilarating experience of racing through the Japanese countryside while listening to Babymetal at full volume. “Forza Horizon 6” is not just another racing game; it’s an open-world adventure where you play as a young driver determined to make a name for yourself. The game offers a vast map of Japan, from the vibrant streets of Tokyo to the icy roads near Mount Fuji, allowing players to explore at their own pace.
In “Horizon 6,” the main objective, as with its predecessors, is to climb the ranks at the Horizon Festival, a series of driving events scattered across Japan. These events range from drag races to dirt tracks to performing stunts on cliffside ramps. As you participate in these competitions, you earn points that unlock more events and opportunities to earn even more points. The game offers a flexible structure, allowing you to focus on the events you enjoy and skip the ones you don’t.
Personally, I find myself mostly avoiding the races and focusing on the joy of driving around Japan in various cool cars. The game’s open-world design allows you to explore the entire map right from the start. As soon as I completed the opening sequence, I set out to explore every corner of the map, except for a few areas that seem to be reserved for later in the game.
One of the highlights of “Horizon 6” is its emphasis on exploration. In addition to the Horizon Festival events, there is a track called “Discover Japan,” where you earn experience by discovering new roads, finding hidden items, and completing side quests. These quests range from helping a photographer capture stunning shots to testing a mechanic’s experiments in challenging terrains.
One of my favorite tasks in the game involves finding hidden cars based on photographs. You’re given a snapshot of a rare car next to a landmark, and if you manage to locate it, the car is yours. These quests remind me of similar challenges in games like “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,” rewarding players for exploring and paying attention to details.
Despite my focus on exploration, I can confirm that the racing aspect of “Horizon 6” is enjoyable. Winning races not only earns you cool cars but also provides cinematic experiences reminiscent of action movies like “Fast and Furious,” with massive jumps, dynamic terrain, and even races against giant mechs.
One of the best features of “Horizon 6” is the freedom it offers players to choose how they want to experience the game. Whether you prefer competing in races or embarking on exploratory journeys, the game allows you to follow your interests and discover new and exciting features. Personally, I enjoy cruising through forest roads in a refurbished Nissan truck, accompanied by the music of Rise Against.
“Forza Horizon 6” is set to launch on Xbox and PC on May 19th, with a PS5 version planned for later in 2026. Whether you’re a racing enthusiast or an explorer at heart, the game offers a unique and engaging experience that caters to a variety of playstyles.
Overall, “Forza Horizon 6” delivers an immersive and enjoyable gaming experience, striking a balance between realism and accessibility. The game’s rendition of Japan captures the essence of the country, providing players with iconic moments and hidden secrets to uncover. With its diverse gameplay options and stunning visuals, “Horizon 6” is sure to appeal to a wide range of players looking for an exciting open-world adventure.
