Microsoft Announces Retirement of Teams’ Together Mode
Microsoft Retires Teams’ Together Mode Feature
In response to changing times, Microsoft has announced the retirement of Teams’ Together Mode feature. Initially launched during the pandemic to simulate a conference room setting for remote meetings, the feature is now being phased out in favor of a more simplified Teams experience.
The Together Mode feature utilized AI technology to remove backgrounds and place meeting participants in a virtual shared space. While it aimed to reduce visual distractions, some users found it gimmicky, especially with interactive gestures like virtual high fives.
As the changes are gradually implemented, the Together Mode toggle will disappear from the view menu, along with associated features such as scenes and seat assignments. Microsoft’s decision is driven by the goal of streamlining the Teams interface across platforms, leading to a more user-friendly experience with improved video quality and performance.
