PlayStation Plus Subscription Prices Increasing This Week

Sony has recently announced that the cost of PlayStation Plus subscriptions will be rising starting May 20th. This change will specifically impact the prices of both 1-month and 3-month subscriptions.

Under the new pricing structure, a 1-month subscription will now be priced at $10.99 USD / €9.99 EUR / £7.99 GBP, while a 3-month subscription will cost $27.99 USD / €27.99 EUR / £21.99 GBP.

It’s important to note that these price adjustments will only affect new subscribers. Existing subscribers on 1-month or 3-month rolling subscriptions will not be impacted unless they allow their subscriptions to lapse. However, it’s worth mentioning that Turkey and India will experience regional price increases regardless.

Sony has cited “ongoing market conditions” as the reason behind the price hike, but for now, it appears that only PS Plus Essential subscriptions are affected.

Previously, the last price increase for PS Plus occurred in late 2023, resulting in a 20% increase in the UK, 26% increase in the EU, and a significant 33% rise in the US for various 12-month subscriptions. These 12-month subscriptions remain unaffected by the current price adjustments.

One way to avoid the impact of these price changes is to opt for 12-month subscriptions, which are priced at £60, offering significant savings compared to monthly or quarterly payments. Keep an eye out for promotional discounts on PS Plus subscriptions during events like Black Friday, New Year, and late spring/early summer, where discounts of up to 30% can often be found. However, this may not be feasible for all gamers, highlighting concerns that Sony may be disproportionately affecting less financially stable individuals.
