As we reach the midpoint of 2026, the landscape of America’s luxury car market is becoming clearer. BMW has surged ahead, leaving Lexus trailing behind. Mercedes-Benz and Audi are observing the widening gap from a distance. At the end of Q1 2026, BMW and Lexus were neck and neck, but six months later, BMW has solidified its lead, selling 186,944 vehicles compared to Lexus’s 169,712. This represents a 4.7% year-over-year increase for BMW.

Strong Performance of the BMW 3 Series

BMW’s success is evident across its lineup, with the 3 Series experiencing a resurgence, showing a 32.3% increase in sales. The X1 and X3 models also saw significant growth, while the 4 Series faced a decline. The X5 and X3 remain top sellers for the brand.

Lexus, on the other hand, faced challenges with the launch of the new ES sedan, leading to a drop in passenger car sales. SUVs performed better, but overall sales were down by 5.2% year-over-year.
