The upcoming “baby” Mercedes-Benz G-Class will not be manufactured in Germany as initially expected. Instead, production is set to take place in Hungary, where Mercedes is enhancing its facilities to establish the largest manufacturing hub in Europe.

Cost efficiency is a key factor in producing a smaller and more affordable model. Hungary’s lower labor costs make it a strategic choice, especially for a vehicle positioned below the flagship G-Wagon in terms of size and price.

Originally planned as a fully electric off-roader, Mercedes has made a decision to introduce hybrid variants alongside the electric version for the new baby G-Class. This move aims to broaden the appeal of the vehicle in various markets.

The all-electric variant is anticipated to come equipped with an 85 kWh battery pack and dual motors, targeting a range of up to 450 miles. While specific power details are not disclosed, the performance is expected to uphold the G-Class legacy.

Regarding the hybrid models, the setup may draw inspiration from the latest CLA, combining a 1.5-liter engine with electric support to generate around 208 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, potentially even more for the baby G-Class.

Rumors suggest that the official unveiling could take place as soon as July 13. Despite the change in manufacturing location, the new G-Class model is poised to embody the unmistakable G-Class essence.
