Windows 11 PCs Face Storage Woes Due to CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal File

The CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal file, which comes pre-installed on Windows 11 computers, has been causing storage problems for users due to its association with app permissions. Recently, several individuals have encountered issues with this file, with some reporting that it consumed as much as 500GB of storage on their devices. Other users have also noted significant growth in the file size, ranging from 12GB to 200GB.

Although Microsoft has not provided a detailed explanation for this issue, Windows Latest suggests that the file’s expansion could be attributed to Windows 11 continually logging repetitive events related to access requests and privacy controls, such as location tracking.

For individuals experiencing storage concerns due to the CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal file, a solution is available through a software update. To address this issue, users can navigate to the Settings menu, select “Windows Update” followed by “Advanced options,” and then opt to “Check for optional updates.” By doing so, users can choose to install the June 2026 update, which includes fixes for this specific problem.
