Last year, I had the opportunity to review the Plaud Note and the more recent Plaud Note Pro, both of which are voice recorders powered by ChatGPT that are designed to capture meetings, transcribe them, and provide summaries after the fact. While it functioned adequately as a basic dictaphone, its accuracy paled in comparison to the Plaud Note, and it lacked the AI-powered summary feature.

The iFLYTEK AINOTE Air 2 falls into a different category compared to these smaller recorders. It is an e-ink note-taking tablet, akin to the reMarkable or Boox, that also has audio recording and live speech transcription capabilities. It is essentially a smaller, more affordable version of the AINOTE 2, with similar software features shared between the two devices. For those who have read my review of the AINOTE 2, much of the content regarding the Air 2 will feel familiar, as it can be best understood as a compact, budget-friendly version of its larger sibling, with a few unique additions of its own.

After spending several weeks with both tablets side by side, it is evident that the Air 2 is not without its flaws. Similar to the AINOTE 2, it may feel less refined in certain aspects compared to the reMarkable. However, what sets both tablets apart and continues to draw me to either device is the live transcription feature, which is the primary reason I would choose one of these e-ink tablets over a standard notebook. The Air 2 introduces a front light and a more portable design, making it the more travel-friendly option between the two. Additionally, it comes at a lower cost. Nonetheless, determining whether these factors are sufficient to recommend the Air 2 over its larger counterpart or a more established e-ink tablet is the focus of this review.
