The GAC Emzoom Lineup Expands with New Base Grade

In an exciting development for fans of the GAC Emzoom, the lineup is set to expand later this year with the introduction of a new base grade. This move will make the small Chinese SUV even more accessible to a wider range of customers.

The latest government certification documents for the Emzoom reveal a new variant called the Premium. This version boasts a slightly lower kerb weight of 1370kg compared to the existing model’s 1415kg, does away with a sunroof, and features smaller 17-inch wheels instead of the previous 18-inch ones.

Despite these changes, the Premium grade retains the same turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 125kW of power and 270Nm of torque. It is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for a smooth and efficient driving experience.

The Emzoom originally debuted in Australia in late 2025 in a single Luxury trim, priced at $25,590 before on-road costs. However, it is currently being offered at a discounted drive-away price of $26,990, making it one of the most affordable SUVs in the market.

New Premium Grade to Lower Entry Price

The introduction of the Premium grade is expected to further reduce the entry price for GAC’s Emzoom lineup. While the exact pricing details are yet to be confirmed, this move is likely to make the SUV even more competitive in its segment.

As of now, the title of Australia’s cheapest SUV belongs to the MG ZS Vibe, priced at $22,990 drive-away. This undercuts base models of other popular SUVs like the Chery Tiggo 4 and Mahindra XUV3XO, priced at $23,990 drive-away each.

Further down the price ladder, the Jaecoo J5 comes in at $25,990 drive-away, while the Hyundai Venue is currently available for $25,990 drive-away. GWM is offering its Haval Jolion Premium at a discounted drive-away price of $23,990, a substantial saving compared to its usual price.

It remains to be seen what additional features GAC may omit from the Emzoom Luxury to achieve a lower price point, besides the absence of a panoramic sunroof.

Feature-Packed Luxury Trim

The Emzoom Luxury trim comes loaded with premium features, including automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, power-folding exterior mirrors, a power tailgate, leatherette upholstery, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Inside, drivers are treated to a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a six-speaker sound system, dual-zone climate control, and ambient lighting for a luxurious driving experience.

GAC’s Growing Presence in Australia

GAC made its entry into the Australian market in late 2025 with the Emzoom, followed by the electric Aion V mid-size SUV and the plug-in hybrid M8 people mover. This year, the lineup was further expanded with the introduction of the Aion UT small electric hatch, showcasing the brand’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

With monthly sales figures now being reported, GAC is steadily making its mark in the Australian automotive industry, offering a diverse range of vehicles to cater to different customer preferences.
