Reviving the Beast: Ford Unleashes the 510 hp V10 Mustang Prototype
Ford Revives Rare V10 Mustang Prototype: The Boss 351
Ford has brought back to life one of the most unique Mustangs ever created – the one-of-a-kind V10 Boss 351 Prototype. After years of neglect, Ford’s Heritage Fleet team has successfully restored this remarkable vehicle, ensuring it will not be forgotten.
Approximately 25 years ago, a team of Ford engineers embarked on a mission to give the Mustang a more exotic powertrain than the traditional V8. Instead of opting for a conventional V10 engine, they ingeniously combined elements from two 4.6-liter Modular V8 platforms and added two additional cylinders.
The result was a naturally aspirated 5.8-liter V10 engine with an all-aluminum construction, custom cylinder heads and camshafts, and a high-revving nature. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, giving the V10 Mustang a truly thrilling driving experience.
After being dormant for an extended period, Ford collaborated with the original development team members to assess the vehicle’s electronics and other systems before subjecting the prototype to a dyno test. The V10 Mustang showcased impressive performance figures, generating over 510 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque at the wheels.
