Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Adds New Region in Act Two Expansion

A new custom campaign mod for Baldur’s Gate 3 has been released in beta, offering players a whole new region to explore between the RPG’s second and third acts. Created by modder SquallyDaBeanz, this ambitious mod introduces The Chionthar Wilds, a region filled with new missions and dungeons, adding depth to the main quest of BG3.

Act Two Expansion, as the mod is called, requires players to find a way to cross the Chionthar River before engaging in an epic battle against the Absolute’s army at Rivington. The new region is designed to be similar in scope to act one’s Wilderness, providing quests, dungeons, and challenges suitable for mid-to-high level parties between levels eight and ten.

While the mod is still in beta, SquallyDaBeanz has completed the first implementation of all planned features, allowing players to experience the mod from start to finish. However, they caution that there may be some unevenness in terms of polish and recommend saving often to avoid potential game-breaking bugs.

In terms of technical issues, players are advised to have a way to cheat to Act 3 in case of any bugs during the finale. The mod has been known to softlock if certain camp events are unfinished before starting the finale. SquallyDaBeanz provides a warning message in-game to alert players to this potential issue.

Despite its technical fragility, Act Two Expansion offers a sprawling adventure with new characters to meet and custom creatures to battle. The mod introduces new NPCs with subtitled dialogue, as the modder currently has no plans to include voice acting for these characters. Additionally, the mod is compatible with multiplayer mods, as long as all players have the mod installed with no mismatched files.

Looking ahead, SquallyDaBeanz has outlined a list of features and improvements they hope to introduce in the eventual 1.0 version of the mod. These include better writing, dialogue, and characters, more character background and skill-specific lines, and a mechanical overhaul of bosses.

To experience Act Two Expansion, players can choose to install either the Main Download for new playthroughs or the Quickstart version, which takes players directly to The Chionthar Wilds. Instructions on how to access the new region are provided in the mod’s description.
