Amazon’s new Kindles appear to have a light leak problem

Light Leak Issue Reported in New Kindles

Numerous users have raised concerns regarding a light leak problem observed in the latest Kindle models, particularly noticeable when utilizing dark mode. The newest base-model Kindles feature a sleek, flush bezel design that exudes elegance and modernity under well-lit conditions. However, the situation takes a turn once the ambient lighting is dimmed and the e-reader’s brightness is increased.

Shadowy Screen Edges and LED Strips

Some users have reported observing shadows around the screen edges or even visible LED strips, affecting both the plastic and aluminum Kindle models in all available colors. While slight glowing along the edges could be attributed to the combination of front lighting and a flush screen, images shared on Reddit suggest a more pronounced issue that hints at a potential defect.

Amazon Acknowledges Manufacturing Issue

According to Good e-Reader, Amazon has acknowledged the problem and admitted that a manufacturing flaw may have resulted in defects within the current batch of Kindles. Amazon spokesperson Katie Condon, responding to The Verge, stated, “In certain specific conditions, such as using dark mode with higher brightness settings in a dimly lit environment, customers may notice a subtle glow at the display edges on devices with colored bezels. This can be alleviated by adjusting the front light to a lower intensity.”
